New York (August 8, 2006)- Perry Rubenstein Gallery and Cristina Grajales Inc. are pleased to announce an exhibition of beautifully handcrafted furniture by Mira Nakashima. The exhibition is comprised of 10 works fashioned from seasoned redwood and expertly transformed into extraordinary pieces of furniture. Some of the highlighted works include a broad desk with striking organic edges, and a spectacular book-matched redwood dining table.  Additional pieces include side tables, coffee tables, lamps and chairs. This exhibition marks the first occasion that furniture by Mira Nakashima will be exhibited in a contemporary art gallery setting.

Mira Nakashima’s exploration of redwood has yielded some of the most remarkable pieces of furniture to date. In conjunction with traditional methods of execution, Nakashima’s lyrical designs encourage harmony and elegance, while maintaining the redwoods’ raw and organic characteristics. Accordingly, each piece stands as a contemporary transformation paying homage to the grandeur of its predecessor. Mira Nakashima presents this collection as a both a marriage of natural form and daily function as well as an attempt to blend the physical environment with her traditional spiritually.
