Tribeca 2021 -

Responding to the powerful pull of community, the Cristina Grajales gallery relocates in November 2021 to the heart of Tribeca. Its ground-level location, in a former 1925 garage building with exceptional hand-laid brickwork, is a connecting thread back to the industrial origins of its first home on Greene Street. Now in direct dialogue with the neighborhood and the street, the gallery welcomes new opportunities to animate design, cultivate fresh voices, and bridge the insights of the past with a visual language for the future.

Chelsea 2015 - 2021

A former printing house in the Flatiron district gave Grajales more space to develop an ambitious program. Groundbreaking designers of furniture and lighting, ceramics, metal and textiles—often testing the boundaries between functional objects and sculpture—joined the gallery. With Doug and Mike Starn’s adventurous Big Bambú exhibition of 2017, and debuts by an international cadre of designers, Grajales furthered her mission to cultivate new forms of creative expression—and new ways to communicate the excitement of contemporary design. Catalogues, fairs, and an ongoing lecture series at the 92nd Street Y have underlined the gallery’s expertise across decades of design history.

Soho 2001 - 2015

In 2001, seeking a home for her new design advisory business, Cristina Grajales rented a floor in a former SoHo textile factory. The neighborhood was changing, but Grajales felt her Greene Street building embodied the authenticity and honest workmanship she revered in design and architecture. Here, single-commission treasures from European masters—Perriand, Prouvé, Royère and others, the artists she’d championed as director of New York’s seminal 1950 Gallery—were presented alongside the inventions of a new generation. Grajales became a founding participant in the Design Miami/Basel fair, sharing her enthusiasm for collectible design with a growing global audience.
